Soprano Isobel Anthony has been noted for her “warm timbre, effortless and agile” (Olyrix, France) and for her “vocal assuredness far beyond her years and a natural stage presence” (Chicago Classical Review, USA). Highlights from the 2025-26 season include her role debut as Sandrina in La finta giardiniera at Paris Opera; her South American debut with the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo on tour with the Paris Opera; her Théâtre Champs-Elysée debut singing the Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio; and a concert gala singing Blanche in excerpts from Les Dialogues des Carmelites at the Palais Garnier with the Paris Opera orchestra. She is a 2025 recipient of the Award of Excellence from the Santa Fe Opera.
During the 2024-25 season, Isobel made her role and house debut as Sylvia in L’isola disabitata at Paris Opera; her Palais Garnier debut singing Leïla (Les pêcheurs de perles) in concert excerpts with the Paris Opera orchestra; and her return to Santa Fe Opera for her role debut as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, where she also covered Susanna and Flora (Turn of the Screw). Isobel was a finalist in the 2025 Tenor Viñas Competition in Barcelona, Spain. She is a 2024 recipient of the Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation and is currently an Artist in Residence with the Académie at Paris Opera.
Her performance work includes several premieres: Woman 1/Jenny in the world premiere of Gregory Spears’ The Righteous at Santa Fe Opera; Mother Nature in the U.S. premiere of Emily: A Musical Portrait at Wolf Trap Opera; Female Narrator in the first revival of Gregory Spears’ Jason and the Argonauts at the Lyric Opera of Chicago; soloist on the world premiere of David Lang’s in nature with four-time GRAMMY-winning choir, The Crossing; and Diana in the Midwest premiere of Jake Heggie’s If I Were You. Last season, Isobel sang with The Crossing on the album “Ochre,” which won the 2024 GRAMMY Award for Best Choral Performance. Additionally, she has performed as the soprano soloist in Luciano Berio’s Sinfonia at Northwestern University and as the Vocalist in Pierrot Lunaire at Yale University. She is a founding member of New York-based vocal chamber ensemble Fourth Wall, with three albums and a film score (Jeff Beal’s score for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari). Her work also includes solo vocals on eight motion pictures, most recently Raya and the Last Dragon, The Jungle Cruise, and News of the World.
Isobel received her Master’s degree from Northwestern University (Voice and Opera) and her Bachelor’s degree from Yale University (Linguistics, Magna cum laude) where she served as the Artistic Director of the Opera Theatre of Yale College. During her time there, she was also a member of Yale’s Schola Cantorum with David Hill, with whom she toured internationally and recorded three albums on the Hyperion label. isobelanthony.com
